And you might wonder on this wacky Wednesday, how does Ralph find a relevant Bible verse well I'm going to make it work here? Ecclesiastes chapter eight verse two reminds us obey the King's command.
19 I say, because you took an oath before God do not be in a hurry to leave the King's presence do not stand up for a bad cause for he will do whatever he pleases. So let's dive into this wacky Wednesday show first up. Did you know it's illegal? For a donut shop in Maine to sell bear claws. And I'm not talking about the pastries, but actual bear paws. How a bear call ban made into Maine law books is a mystery, but Hey. Better safe than sorry. Right? No bear claw concessions. Any time soon. Here's another odd law singing off key is prohibited while wearing a bathing suit in Florida. Apparently you'd better have a perfect pitch before rocking a swimsuit on a sunny Florida beach.
02 No tone, deaf karaoke aloud. This certainly makes me wonder exactly how that law came to exist. Well buckle up buttercups because in Alabama, It's illegal to drive while blindfolded shocking. Isn't it. Let's hope most drivers don't need a law to avoid that dangerous practice. The story behind this weird rule must be interesting. Now on to everyone's favorite subject money. That's what we talk about here on the Ask Ralph Podcast in Tennessee. It's against the law to use a lasso to catch fish. While. An ingenious idea. In theory, fishing with a lasso is deemed illegal. So anglers, take notes, stick to rods and reels in Tennessee.
43 I'm still trying to figure out how you would catch a fish with a lasso. strange food. bans also a bound across the country. For instance, in New Jersey, it's forbidden to slurp soup. I can just imagine a police officer scolding, no slurping that chowder before writing a ticket. Meanwhile in Ohio, it's illegal to get a fish drunk. no booze for the bass and trout, please let's hope this doesn't inspire any weird underwater frat parties. Sometimes outdated laws remain on the books through the ages, like in Georgia. Where it's still technically illegal to use profanity in front of a corpse. Now I need to know exactly what prompted that rule.
24 There are also some business practices that are perfectly legal in most places, but for some reason, prohibited in select states, for example, In Louisiana. Only bakeries can legally make king cakes for Mardi Gras. Seems like an opening for a black market king cake operation. Bizarre bans continue across the country from prohibiting silly string and Hollywood. To outlawing the collection of rags in Utah. The reasoning behind much of this legislation remains a mystery. While these odd laws may not seem to make sense. We are called to honor governing authorities. However, we can still work to change unethical rules through ethical means when possible until then let's abide by the law with integrity.
08 Now let's talk about some practical steps to avoid running a foul. That's a funny play on words of some of these odd regulations. So I always give you some practical steps and here. They are. Research local laws before operating a business or visiting a new region. The truth is folks ignorance. Doesn't make the law void. ignorance to the law is no excuse. As they say. Post relevant rules for staff and patrons when applicable clear communication prevents problems. If there's a law or a rule in your area, you need to post that and make sure that people understand those laws. And finally consult a lawyer if unsure, whether an aspect of your business complies with statutes, you don't want to guess ask the experts and keep yourself out of hot water.
